The
Geordie Empire Medal or GEM
for
short is a new online award which is given
in recognition for the recipients services
to the Geordie Nation and for enhancing the
profile and reputation of Geordies all
around the world.
The
recipients will be entitled to put the
letters "G.E.M"
after their name and legitimately refer to
themselves as a certified "Geordie
Gem".
The
award is inspired by the now defunct order
of the British Empire but unlike the former
classifications and because it is a Geordie
medal it is given without any form of class
distinction.
*The
design of the medal is based on a a medal
struck in 1849 to celebrate the 7th June
completion of the structure of the High
Level Bridge in the Geordie capital city of
Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Status
has
absolutely no bearing on whether someone can
be awarded a "GEM"
Whether
the recipient is perceived as military
class, upper class, middle class, working
class, lower working class & naturally
of course non working class).
