Discover Wallsend In North Tyneside

Wallsend is a historic town in the borough of North Tyneside on the banks of the river Tyne built at the North Eastern end of Emperor Hadrian’s Roman Wall.

The towns historic name Segedunum which translates to “strong fort” is visible on many of the it’s various road signs.

Progress in the ongoing redevelopment of Wallsend follows the fairly recent demolition and rebuilding of Burn Closes Bridge links the communities of Holy Cross, Rosehill & Howdon to Wallsend town centre, along with the  brand new multi-million pound swimming pool and regeneration of its parks and hall grounds.

The ongoing regeneration of Battle Hill shopping precinct as well as the building of a second vehicle tunnel and the refurbishment of the pedestrian tunnel in Willington Quay are visible signs of the significant amount of money being spent on the further development of the town.

Though this progress seems slow to some Wallsender’s, a vast amount of new money has already being spent on the town and its suburbs and the plans for the future will mean that the Wallsend communities will continue to change in the future.

Warning wheel clamping cowboys operating at the Forum.

I had recently lost my bank card in need of some cash i popped to the Forum in my lunch break to go to Barclays Bank .

When I returned to my car five mins later i found somone clamping my car demanding £150 to remove clamp
I understand I was in the wrong not having pay & display ticket a fine would have been bad enough but to clamp my car stopping me returning to work is a total discrace

      Hi Clare
Did you have any success about your wheel clamping?

2 weeks ago, we had to bring £150 cash so that the wheel clampers woujld allow my daughter and her 2 toddlers to go free. They wouldn’t accept her credit card and it was subzero temperatures.

      It’s highway robbery!

Are the clampers still operating there, where was it exactly? might go round with my camera and get some embarrassing shots of them at work

Looking for old photos from 1960 onwards, I am now living in Halifax and would like to see old photos from when I lived in Howdon. I went to Hadrian School.
