Catherine Cookson, fits in with anyone’s description of a true Geordie as she was actually born on the banks of the river Tyne in Tyne Dock South Shields.
Catherine Cookson went on to become both one of the UK’s and the Worlds most widely read novelists and her almost 100 books were for the most inspired by her life growing up as a young Geordie lass in the deprived areas of her beloved Tyneside.
Her novels have so far been translated into at least 20 languages and read by over 123 million people around the world.
Dame Catherine Cookson received the required 10 votes & is therefore awarded a posthumous Geordie Empire Medal for services to Geordie literature.
