Jackie Charlton OBE – GEM RIP: 8 May 1935 – 10 July 2020

Born in Ashington in Northumberland on 8 May 1935, the Geordie footballer and world cup winner, Jack Charlton became a successful manager after he finished playing football.

Managing Middlesbrough (twice), Sheffield Wednesday and Newcastle United, Jack went on to famously manage The Republic Of Ireland, where they reached the heady heights of the quarter finals of the world cup.

He again managed them to qualification for the finals in 1994. Jack was also awarded honorary Irish citizenship

For his services to football Jack Charlton is a true Geordie GEM worthy of a Geordie Empire Medal.
