This new section will now allow visitors to add their own comments to our information and updates.

Geordies can find humour & entertainment in almost any situation and the world famous self deprecating  humour is visible in the most popular forms of Geordie comedy and entertainment.

As a group, Geordies naturally tend to be very sceptical about the way of the world and are prone to generally poke fun at themselves as much as any other group.

This, some would say “healthy scepticism” sometimes helps to strengthen the popular “myth” that Geordie people never take anything too seriously.

The web-links in the Geordie humour categories will point you in the direction of some of the more famous Geordie humorists, comedians and comedy entertainers, as well as links to other material that Geordies find funny or entertaining.

The web-links in the Geordie entertainment categories will point you in the direction of some of the more famous Geordie actors, TV presenters, writers and all round variety entertainers.

The Likely Lads – Terry & Bob

The Likely Lads was a television series that first broadcast on 7th July 1965 and featured James Bolam and Rodney Bewes as Terry and Bob, two lads living in Newcastle filled with sarcastic humour & charm.

As with all good double acts one (rodney bewes) was steady and educated and the other actor (james bolam) was cast as a rough and ready Geordie.

Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais of Auf Weidersehen Pet fame also wrote the sitcom, which ran for three series from 1964 to 1966 and inspired the cinema version, Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads in the 1970s.

Legendary & Very Proud Geordie Comedian Bobby Thompson

Bobby Thompson – The Little Waster

The Little WasterBobby Thompson was a legendary and very proud Geordie comedian in his beloved “Geordieland”.

Born in Penshaw he later moved to Whitley Bay in North Tyneside where he lived for the majority of his life. He rarely ventured outside of the region or appeared on TV.

Much of his comedy was based on the everyday circumstances of the people in his beloved North East.

His jokes about his wife, Debt, Poverty and of course his famous Mother In Law touched the collective funny bones of all Geordies in the north east of England.

A documentary film shot during his final years in which he speaks frankly about his problems with debt, dole and drink and the the famous old soldier stands out as a brilliantly funny epitaph which tells an account of his contribution to the Second World War, including an encounter in the chip shop.

Jimmy Nail – Geordie Singer, Songwriter & Actor

Jimmy Nail is one of Geordielands most well known sons and is famous not only for his acting but his music.

An all round Geordie entertainer, Jimmy who was born in benton near the city of Newcastle Upon Tyne now lives in America, however he has never lost track of his roots and is most famous for his acting role as Geordie builder “Oz” in the hit television show Auf Wiedersehen Pet

Jimmy has released a number of songs during his long singing career however one of the songs that stands out as a tribute to his roots is the classic Big River based on the history of the river Tyne stretching from the famous Tyne bridges in Newcastle Upon Tyne down to Tynemouth on the east coast..

The song chronicles  his hope for the future of the shipyards which built so many historic ships on this deceptively “big river”.

Chris and Simon Donald – Viz Comic Creators Of Geordie Characters Sid The Sexist & Biffa Bacon

Geordie Chris Donald along with his brother Simon Donald had a love for satire and cartoons which resulted in the creation of the Viz comic.

The two Geordie’s put the comic together initially in a bedroom in Jesmond just outside the Newcastle City Centre, and it went on to become the third biggest selling magazine in the UK.

Famous for it’s somewhat stereotypical look at the Geordie culture its popularity was mainly due to it’s rich mixture of comical toilet humour, satire & crude language.

 (*you have been warned*)

It also though, contains a great deal of very subtle and intelligent humour which of course us Geordies perfectly understand :) .
