The Land Of The Geordies In The Heart Of North East England – Breathtaking, Friendly & Passionate
Geordieland stands for “the land of the Geordies” and the individual Geordie Communities are situated in the north east of England including the areas of Newcastle, Gateshead, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Durham & Northumberland which also includes Tynedale & Hexham.
In the Geordieland section of the directory we will highlight the diversity of Geordieland’s communities, architechture, history, art and culture and of course the people which will help to show just what makes Geordieland that little bit different from other areas of England & The United Kingdom.
Geordieland also has two historic cities, Newcastle Upon Tyne, the home of Newcastle United and the City of Durham.
In the past it was actually accepted that Geordieland stretched from the northern town of Berwick Upon Tweed in Northumberland on the borders with Scotland, west to Kelso on the border with Cumbria and due east to the town of Middlesbrough on the border with Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.
However, due mainly to Football rivallry (check out the Geordie faq’s section) this invisible border seems to have been scaled back to the north eastern seaside town of South shields which borders with the city of Sunderland (view current map).
This ongoing situation poses a troubling question that obviously requires an answer
Are people in the areas in and around Sunderland & Middlesbrough happy to allow a small minority of football supporters to take away their Geordie heritage? Are they really happy to be more and more known as either Mackem’s or Smoggies?
